A person has the right to choose what they want to do with their life. When it comes down to end-of-life decisions due to a terminal illness people should have the right to decide what they want. Euthanasia is an option one can look to when looking to pass away in peace and without agonizing pain. Therefore, euthanasia should be legalized in the United States in order to fulfill one’s choice in their end-of-life decision. Some people believe that euthanasia is a wrongful deed. They believe that there are other ways to go around it such as taking pain medications to relive a person’s pain. There are many diseases today that yet to have a cure. People that are in an end stage of a terminal illness have to go through the pain and suffering the illness comes with every day. When a disease such as cancer is in its final stage people get tired of the unbearable pain and wish to end it with euthanasia. The article, “Why do we want the right to die?” explains that, “Severe pain was seen to have an enormously detrimental effect on quality of life, and some who were terminally ill thought it inevitable and uncontrollable” (Hendry et al. 19). This shows that pain is the main cause of why people would want to end their suffering. Euthanasia is a reasonable way to go to when a person’s dying wish when it comes down to living with a terminal
