In the book Spoon River anthology Edgar lee masters show us how life is not always easy and the difficulties that people have to overcome in their lives, Life is not alway easy it comes with difficulties it is up to us to overcome them or let them rule our lives. Dora Williams had two husbands die and she had to overcome that grief to continue with her life. Nancy Knapp was given an entire farm from his father with this great farm came the backlash of his siblings and neighbors no wanting to help him. Mrs. George Reece’s husband got thrown in jail and she had to now care for all the children by herself. They all had difficulties in their lives and it was up to them if they overcame them or not. The first epitaph is about Mrs George Reece and how she had a big difficulty in her life when she had to do everything to maintain the family. her husband was thrown in jail for the downfall of thomas Rhodes bank even though he was only a cashier.

George Reece. She was given a gift by her father she had inherited the entire farm. But it quickly turned into a burden because her brothers and sister accused her of poisoning her father's mind into giving her the farm. The disease Murrain took the cattle the crops failed and lightning struck the granary. She mortgaged the farm to keep it going. She could no longer take it so she set fire to the beds and the old witch-house and she danced in the yard. Dora Williams had a difficult life she was not stable for long periods of time. She married her first husband while drunk and they were married for a year when one day they found him dead. Dora became rich and moved to chicago and then she moved to New York. she married an old man and he died it almost became a scandal so Dora moved to paris.she was living near Champs Elysees and she met Count Navigato and he poisoned her and she died and he got all of her
