I used supervision to seek advice and support from my practice educator on a weekly basis or whenever it was necessary. I spoke to my practice educator about all concerns I had regarding theory and practice within my placement setting. Supervision helped me to understand what is expected of me as a student social worker, developing my skills, knowledge, behaviours, values and attitudes necessary to carry out my role, it gives me time to discuss my work and if I have any problems/concerns regarding my placement (Fenge, et al. 2014). Supervision included observations of my work and having feedback whether positive or improvement needed helped promote my professionalism as a future social worker, identifying the professional values needed to enter the profession and how to problem solve when situations become difficult and I may face a setback. Supervision helps develop my own professional standards as I received advice and guidance from my supervisors. Using skills I have enhanced through supervision will help me find solutions, achieve change and actively engage in complex relationships with service users and professionals and to help to deal with my emotions (Lomax, Jones, 2014). Through supervision I received constructive feedback on past and current performance, assisting me to consider different methods of approach with service users by using different theories and models in communication skills, advocacy, empowerment and applying a person centred approach in the placement setting, because of this I was able to work in an integrated way following and meeting the organisations objectives.
