Once a person is born into this world there is underlying ticking clock to their death, whether the person understands it is another question in itself. If you knew you were dying and were given one chance to give an explanation of what you have learned in life along with what is it you want to be remembered by, what would it be? This is a reality that Randy Pausch was given and had to accept.
This book is about a Professor who was given the opportunity to give what I would say as a tell what you have learned through your life lecture. The foreshadowing thing behind that fact was it would be in actuality Randy Pausch’s last lecture due to the fact that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was given only months to live. He then gives a slide showing stuffed animals and explains how everyone looks at the person at the carnival with the big stuffed animal as a hero. He then gets into talking about how his family would almost battle for who could get the biggest stuffed animal at the fairs. Randy made his readers listen more by not making the speech as serious compared to some professors, but instead made it enthusiastic by doing little things like: giving away his stuffed animals during the speech, wearing his clothing he was given at Disney instead of a strict suit and tie, wearing a football jacket to show his love for the game, and told lots of jokes.
