Adams, John. The letters of John and Abigail Adams. Penguin Classics. 2003. In this book, John adams is viewed as a loving husband, but he is also viewed as a well educated diplomat. He is very respected, and he is very loving and supportive to his wife, Abigail Adams. The some of the letters were written before the Revolutionary War, so all of this happened before John Adams even took office. At this time, the Adams’ were everyday average people. In the letters, John teaches Abigail about how to deal with the different opinions of people. The Adams family supported one another. “Adams’s thought on Government was published anonymously in April 1776, much to the pleasure of Adams and also of Abigail, as she notes in her letter to him dated May 9,1776 (letter 103).” This essay really discusses how Adams felt about a government just like there is today. It clearly shows in her letters between her and Adams that she just as equal in the marriage as John was. She wrote to John many times on the rights and well being of women. John’s attitude toward politics and his personality in general was conveyed through all of these letters shared with his wife. During most of their fifty year marriage, they spent it apart the majority of the time. She was a better politician than he was because she was a better judge of character than he was. She supported him through all of his trips away from home, but did not like it. This was because he was really far away. Therefore, it only makes logical sense for them to communicate through all of these letters that they wrote.
