If you had the ability to wish for anything, would you. Well like a lot of things that would come with a price. In this short story a man gained a little trinket that would grant him three wishes. With the first wish he didn't worry about the consequence, until something awful happened. So here are the reasons that "The Monkeys Paw" by William Wymark Jacobs is horror. "The Monkeys Paw" is a horror story because it uses suspense for the wishes, the monster comes from the inside, and involves elements of the supernatural.

"The Monkeys Paw" is a horror story partly because of it's elements of the supernatural. The supernatural elements include the monkeys paw itself, the wishes that come from the monkeys paw, and the old fakir who cursed the paw. When people wish on the paw the will come true, but at a cost. When the old fakir cursed the paw he definitely would have had to use some elements of the supernatural.

The monster is not the kind you would usually expect, the monster comes from the inside and is called greed. When Mr. White pulled the monkeys paw from the fireplace he just wanted the wishes that would come from it, he didn't care about the consequences at the time. Almost right after the soldier left their house Mr. White made a wish for 200 pounds and after the wish had been made and the consequence had happened, and after that consequence happened Mrs. White told her husband to make a wish to undo it.

After knowing that any wish you make would come with consequence, would you still wish? "The Monkeys Paw" did have many reasons that it would be defined as horror, three of the main were suspense, the monster, and the elements of the supernatural. The author will want the reader to feel afraid, or even have the hair on the back of their necks to stand up. When someone reads "The Monkeys Paw" the reader will most likely feel spooked or be a little more
