Many Americans believe that in this day and time that isolation isn’t bad; it doesn’t affect you but it really does. In recent years though studies have shown that isolation can be harmful to you. Although isolation may be harmful it can cause many health issues as well as death.
Isolation can cause people to go insane. They’re alone. They have no one to talk to. Most people start talking to themselves, then that leads to them arguing with themselves. In the poem “The Lady of Shalott” she is lonely. She is stuck in one room because of the curse. If she tries to leave the room the curse will be upon her. Isolation can cause both mental and physical issues; not just one or the other. In the article Dangers of Isolation it says, “ Studies have found that a lack of social connections can increase the risk of death by at least 50% and in some cases more than 90%.” This can affect people in a mental way because they have nobody to talk to, they start to talk to themselves and going crazy and thinking about suicide. This can also affect people in a physical way to. It may affect people in a physical way by them going crazy and not taking care of themselves and just looking like warmed over death. This shows everyone that people do indeed need communication and social interaction with others to keep from isolating themselves from others. Many others believe that it can cause death and other harmful things to people. They have either read about it, seen it first hand, or know someone that went through it.
