Harry Truman made one of the most controversial decisions in history, He made the decision to drop the atomic bombs on the Empire of Japan to effectively end World War II. Harry Truman became the vice president after Franklin Roosevelt deemed his last vice president Harry Wallace unacceptable. He became president after the death of Franklin Roosevelt after his fight with polio in April 1945. President Truman inherited a bad situation with what was going on at the time when he was inaugurated. The war in Germany was finally over but Truman still had to deal with the Russians trying to take over all of Eastern Europe and the war with Japan in the Pacific.

The United States spent an estimated $1,889,604,000 on this project and if we developed this weapon and didn’t use it, it would be seen as a waste of that much money. It also most likely struck fear into the Russians and any other country that wanted to test our dominance. Some of the cons of dropping the bomb were it did kill many Japanese people and they still have to deal with radioactive issues in the kill zone. It also went against many moral codes and it killed many non-combants on the island of Japan. Truman would have lost a lot of popularity in the United States if the public found out that he had a weapon to save American lives and he did not use it and instead sent thousands of young Americans to their
