Loneliness is also another theme displayed in "The Reader." In this book, Michael was always alone. While he was sick, he couldn't interact with any of his friends because he could only stay home and recover. But even when he recovered and went to school again, he was still very lonely. However, that feeling of loneliness was gone when he met Hanna. Hanna gave him attention, love, and enjoyment, and he became attached to her despite their age difference. Hanna was also very lonely, because she doesn't have any family or friends around her, so Michael kept her company and gave her playful enjoyment, he was like a son to her. But because of this secret relationship they had, Michael was very distant with his friends, family, and even his generation.
