The Lewis and Clark expedition was a expedition that President Thomas Jefferson instructed after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The expedition was to explore and to map the new territory we had just bought, and to also find a route to the Pacific Ocean.
Today we are leaving Washington DC. We traveled on horseback through the eastern towns preparing for the western expedition. Lewis Purchased guns, tomahawks and knives and sent an invitation to Clark to co-command the expedition.
Today a wagon was loaded with 3500 pounds of supplies and equipment for the western expedition. It traveled through the towns of Lancaster, York, Gettysburg and arrived at a Ferry on June 28. Crossing the Appalachian Mountains the wagon arrived at Pittsburgh on
