The rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I agree with this statement. Many people that oppose of capitalism, including myself, feel as though capitalist are the reason why the poor suffer because the rich are persistently increasing their wealth and using it to oppress the poor. The world had shifted its responsibilities from necessity to luxury. Essentially, the root of global poverty will always be known to be capitalism.
In the painting “The Thankful Poor”, I am exceedingly alarmed. I feel this way because of the conditions of the family portrayed in the painting. It shows how a family doesn’t have much yet, the family is grateful for having the little that to do have and they are also thankful for having themselves. To me it speaks volumes to how evil the world is. “The Thankful Poor” depicts a poor African American man and boy sitting at a dinner table with the heads bowed and their hands together in prayer. The setting of the picture and the posture and characteristics of the figures in the paintings suggest that they are poor. The painting by Henry O. Tanner addresses the struggles of grief that is constantly placed on people living in poverty.

The fact that capitalist make a lot of money without working., and the people that actually perform the hard work and labor receive little to nothing in return. Because of this they have to live in horrid conditions, such as the conditions that are displayed in “The Thankful Poor”.
