“People change over time”. This statement is a big part of the characters in The Watsons Go to Birmingham. The story is filled with character changes,From emotionally to spiritually . A few examples are Byron, Kenny, And The Family all together. So lets ‘change’ the subject.

So let’s start off with Byron, Byron is the most changed character in this story. He started off as a budding delinquent. The typical 50s greaser, a real tough guy. He even had his own greaser nickname ‘Daddy cool’. He wouldn’t even touch his dad because it was ‘not cool’. Even his brother states that Byron is a ruffian, as seen in chapter 1 “Byron had just turned 13 so he was officially a juvenile delinquent”. After his calamitous experience in Birmingham, and being imperiled of staying there before then, he changed. He became more friendly to his brother, before he was a coercer to him. Also While Kenny was going through his changes, By helping him, and was way more involved with him.As seen here in chapter 15 “Byron sat next to me on the floor and put my head in his lap”. That’s what Byron did when Kenny started crying.By would let Kenny play basketball with him,and watch tv.Even when they were in Birmingham, By started acting more respectful to adults. It probably was a fabrication to try not to have to stay in Birmingham. But he did something odd ,for him.
