The O'briens tone in this chapter is resentful. O'Brien expresses bitterness in the chapter. O'Brien states that “twenty years later, I'm left with faceless responsibility and grief (Pg 172).” O’Brien admits that he did not kill the young man, but the fact that he was present made him feel guilty (pg 171).O'brien feels guilty for the events that happened in during the war, what he saw and what he did. His tone is resentful because of what he felt and stated. Tim O'brien's purpose in writing the novel is to mix reality with story fiction to create a truer story. Tim O’Brien writes a story of a character, which is him, but he doesn't tell the story with true facts. He weaves fiction into the story to make it vivid, to express what he felt,
