When faced with tough decisions Tim O’brien attempts to predict the outcomes of his actions which provided him with unsurety of his choices. This is evident when he fantasized about being chased through the woods by mounties,border patrols and the FBI, which reveals this is an outcome he expected to happen and causes him to rethink his decision of crossing the border (page 9). This example explains that Tim O’Brien is envisioning the consequences of his actions, which persuades him to reconsider fleeing to Canada. And it provides him with unsurety as he believes he was not meant to serve in the military, “I was too good for this war. Too smart,too compassionate, too everything.” (page 2).
