One of the worst tragic fires took place in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory, also known a the Ash building, in New York City on March 25, 1911. Owners and employees never found out what exactly started the fire on the 8th floor, but there is many ways the fire could have started. The fire safety wasn’t very good, things on the 8th floor were wrongly placed. The fire started at about 4:40 pm while workers were getting ready to leave to go home to their families for the week. This fire caused new laws to be written and changed to how they are now. People started to believe that what started the fire was a lit cigarette that someone left burning then through in the scrap bin. One of the workers that was putting her coat on noticed the fire and told the owners. People poured two buckets of water on the fire, but it wasn’t enough. When men went to go get the water hose they were worried when the water wasn’t coming out because it was not connected to the water. A lot of things was wrong with the building. The isles were so small employees were shoving through other people just to get passed. The doors that lead to the fire escape stairway opened out instead of in, scraps of flammable clothes were laying around, entrances to the eighth floor were blocked by bars that only one at a time could go through, and fire escapes out the window that fell. The fire department finally came some employees got out while others were there to suffer. A lot of other things went wrong and were out of place but people will always remember on of the most tragic fires in
