The Amendment that kept our Country free Imagine a world where there was only one president forever. The Twenty-Second amendment was made so a president could not run for office more than eight years in a row. The Twenty-Second amendment was put into place for many reasons, but there are three reasons that should be keyed on which are the presidents should have a limit on their power, another is George washington only did 2 terms, and the last way that it is important is because FDR was president for 15 years. One of the reasons that the twenty-second amendment was put into place was people didn't want one president to have too much power in the office. “Congress was afraid that without limited time in the office a president could gain way too much power” (Dfootfnic). If there was not a limit to the number of years that a president got in the office he could over time take over the whole office and if that was for good or for bad there would be no say in the subject at that point. “The intent of the Amendment was so the president did not turn into a type of dictator” (Gilley). “Franklin D. Roosevelt broke the normal amount of terms and ran for four terms in office” (“22nd Amendment”). This show that the Twenty-Second Amendment was needed was because a president running for four terms is just way too long for one president to be in office. “Franklin D.
