When working as a Health Care Assistant, it is important to understand that the responsibilities of the profession do not only consist of assisting with physical needs (hygiene, nutrition, safety, etc), but also of providing honest care and attention that enhances the client’s chances of having a fulfilling life. In accordance with Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs model, a person can only achieve happiness if they manage to satisfy certain needs, which he organised in a pyramid model. The pyramid levels from bottom to peak are: physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization.

He needs physical activities to stay fit and healthy as he ages, however, he might find it difficult to walk, exercise, prepare healthy meals, and stay safe as he might be scared of stumbling, and bumping into objects.
