W.E.B. DuBois was an African-American leader for civil rights in his community. Well educated, DuBois formed a group of black men who would strive to work toward creating a better relationship between the black and white communities called the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Among his numerous studious achievements, DuBois became a famous author. In his book, The Souls of Black Folk, DuBois reflects on the reality of the effect of prejudice among black people.
DuBois captures the audience’s attention in the very first sentence of the second paragraph in chapter one expressing he was a “problem” in the hierarchy of society. The mere color of his skin caused much animosity between him and white people.
