The book Wes Moore: One Name Two Fates by Wes Moore is an amazing story that presents a real world truth that one decision can impact your whole life. The author of the book as well as one of the main characters, Wes Moore, is the first character introduced into the story. He is a normal boy growing up in an unsafe neighborhood after the passing of his father. Wes has the opportunity to make very bad choices. However, he ultimately decides to turn his life into something worthwhile when he goes to military school. “This was my first morning in military school” (Moore 87). The other Wes Moore had a brother, Tony, who was a drug dealer. This soon rubbed off on Wes even though Tony always advised him against it always giving him the advice to do what he says and not what he does. “‘You want one of these, it’s pretty easy. All you have to do is wear one, and every time you see jakes roll by, you just push this button and say something. When your shift is over, you come by, and I’ll give you the money,’” (Moore 58). Wes sees a headset on a boy and has a desire for one, so he goes and asks how to get one and is quickly working with drug dealers. This moment was only the beginning for a string of bad choices from Wes. A few years later he adds something terrible to his permanent record. “Wes and his friend traded shots and finally heard Ray scream as he fell behind a black Toyota just fifty feet from his house.” (Moore 105). With the mentality that Tony gave Wes to send a message, it doesn’t help Wes. He also doesn’t finish high school. “Most of all, Woody thought about Wes, who had stopped going to school two years earlier.” (Moore 110). Later he even tries to sell “rock”, crack cocaine, to an undercover cop.
