My theory on what happened to the Roanoke Colony is that Spaniards came to the colony and took the people from the village and either killed them or took them as captured prisoners. The colonists in Roanoke were discovered missing on July the 22nd in 1585. The Anglo-Spanish war was going on from 1585 to 1604. The timeline of both events are interestingly close. My theory is that the Spaniards thought they could get an edge on their enemies if they destroyed some of the colonies that they had founded in the Americas. This was the case when the Spanish destroyed the French colony of Fort Charles as well as Fort Caroline. Both of these colonies were colonies of the enemies of the Spaniards.
