1800’s economic system of the North and South
North agriculture and South agriculture differ in many ways. The North had smaller farmsteads rather than large plantation. The south used the cotton gin invented by Eli Whitney. This tool helped clean the cotton which helped increase the amount of cotton they collected. North was fueled by more abundant natural resources and one quarter of the northerners lived in urban areas. South had large scale farms and cropped items like cotton and tobacco.
