How does one simply begin to explain what it means to be an American? Being an American does not necessarily mean being born and raised in America. It does not mean that you are a white man or woman who has more rights than others. No, being an American has a much deeper meaning than that. Anyone who believes in their rights and that they should all have equal freedoms can be considered an American. For example, there have been many colored figures throughout history who have stood up for the rights of all Americans and claimed to be one themselves. So what exactly does being an American mean? It means being independent, being able to believe in all of your rights and express your freedoms. It means being brave, always being able to stand up for what you believe in and stand up for people around you. It also means having patriotism, having and showing pride for the land of the free.

How do you see yourself and others around you? Do you live your life to be considered a proud American? There are a lot of services that the U.S. offers for people to fight for our country. The reason this is so important is because these people who fight are the reason we have the right to bare arms and the right to say what we want when we want. Nowadays, there are more and more young men enlisting into the air-force, the army, the navy, etc., which makes me happy that there are so many willing to fight for our country. Although, the more I see it happening the more I wonder if they are doing it for the right reasons or if it's just a way to get out of going to college. To those who fought in the world wars and the civil war I have a great respect for. America is the back to back world champ and that is something to be proud
