The South Failed at Reconstruction
“The goal of Reconstruction was to readmit the South on terms that were acceptable to the North - full political and civil equality for blacks and a denial of the political rights of whites who were the leaders of the secession movement.”- Anonymous. The failing of reconstruction was a big thing because it needed to rebuild the United States but failed when the South kept creating more and more problems to deal with. The South was most responsible for the failure of reconstruction because they allowed hatred groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the south created black codes, and the South had sharecropping.
December 24, 1865 a hatred group was formed called the Ku Klux Klan to torture freed African Americans. The Ku Klux Klan was created in the south and called themselves “The Loyal White Knights”. The Ku Klux Klan killed approximately 3,446 blacks in 86 years. The Ku Klux Klan felt as if it was their duty to protect Caucasians from black people, or just to kill African Americans for the color of their skin. …show more content…
However, the weakness in that is all the conflicts were in the south such as the Ku Klux Klan, black codes, and sharecropping. That’s why the south was responsible for the failure of reconstruction.
In conclusion, the South was most responsible for the failure of reconstruction because they allowed hatred groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, created black codes, and sharecropping. When the Ku Klux Klan formed it was specifically to frighten African Americans. The South created Black codes so that they could restrict African Americans freedom. When sharecropping came about it was to specifically make African Americans go into poverty. All the South needed to do is end all conflicts that were going on so that reconstruction could be successful and not a big failure like it
