The word communism has had a bad connotation in the United States since the foundation of this country. Even today people still do not truly understand what communism is. Therefore, they use it as a bad word. Why and how did this fear start? Communism has been feared since the foundation of the United States. The founding fathers of the United States did not want a “communistic” government because they feared that the United States would have a big government. They did not want to to become what they saw and knew in the United Kingdom. However fear of Communism truly escalated during the 19th and 20th century. This true fear of communism is only unique to the United States. In Japan for example a country with tradition and cultural values, communism is flourishing.How can communism that has a deeper history in the United States be so feared than in Japan. …show more content…
Robert Owen, a man from Whales tried to build communism in a city named New Harmony. New Harmony which still exists today is a city in Indiana. Robert Owen created this city and even created his own currency. This currency was equal to one hour of work for each piece of paper. In this city everyone had the same pay based on their working ability. New Harmony, invited many people from all of Europe to come and was once considered an enlightened city. This city fell apart after 3 years because their was no center force to hold the people together. Since New Harmony was communist their were no churches no religion nothing to unite people together.
