Benjamin Franklin was one of the founding fathers of the United States. He was known as a major figure in the American Enlightenment and the history of physics for his theories and discoveries regarding electricity; he was also the sixth president of the United States of America. Benjamin was an author, printer, political theorist, politician, freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat. His greatest inventions were the lightning rod, bifocals, and the Franklin stove. In the following, I will talk about Ben’s life and how he became one of the most important figures in history today.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston, MA on January 17, 1706 in a small house on Milk Street next to an old church. He was the 10th son to Josiah Franklin. His mother, Abiah Folger, was Josiah’s second wife. He was the youngest son of five generations of youngest sons; he had eleven …show more content…
After he voted for independence, Franklin was elected commissioner to France and set to negotiate a treaty for the country’s financial and military support. He returned to the United States in 1785. He was elected to represent Pennsylvania at the Constitutional Convention in 1787. Ben also served as President of Pennsylvania Society for Promoting the Abolition of Slavery at the time. Benjamin Franklin died dies on April 17, 1790 in Pennsylvania at his daughter Sarah’s house. He died at 86, suffering from gout, which is sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness and tenderness in joints, often the joint at the base of the big toe. Franklin left behind a very big legacy.
