Heroes Throughout the Centuries What classifies someone as a hero is different for everyone. Some may say saving a baby from a burning house; while others would consider athletic players, singers, and reality tv stars heroes. Being a hero is having the willingness to make a personal sacrifice for the benefit of others. Dr. David Breeden’s adapted version of The Adventures of Beowulf considers Beowulf to be a hero from his century and time. Beowulf is described as “brave in battle arose, then bore his shield and mail, trusting his strength under the stone cliffs” (Breeden EPS.10). As a hero, you have to believe in yourself. Beowulf believed that he could do anything because he believed in himself. Trusting within himself proves that he is a hero.
