The most important thing about the battle at Fort Sumter is it was the first shots fired upon the union in the Civil War. Fort Sumter is “a man-made island that stands in the middle of Charleston Harbour”.(battlefeilds.org) Fort Sumter was “surrounded by confederate bases and stood alone in the middle of the harbour”(notebook pg 42).
