Abraham Lincoln responds to this by sending Ulysses S. Grant to Chattanooga.
Grant went to the city of Chattanooga to refortify it.

The Battle of Chattanooga was a battle between the Confederacy and the Union.
The first battle was Orchard Knob, second Battle was Lookout Mountain, and the final was Missionary Ridge
The City was vital to Yankees because it was a railroad junction that would help them break through to the south

General Ulysses S. Grant was the General of the Union armies.
He graduated twenty first out of thirty nine of the cadets in his class.
