William Henry Harrison William Harrison was the 9th president of the United States. He was born in Virginia on February 9, 1773. William was elected at the old age of 67 and was the oldest man to even take office. William was the first president to die in office. His dad, Benjamin, was a singer of the Declaration of Independence and his grandson became the 23 president of the United States. William was also part of the Whig party. William studied at Hampden Sydney college, he studied classics and history there. He also studied medicine in Richmond. Before he could attach his camp was actually attacked instead. His soldiers repelled but 190 people were either dead or wounded in the aftermath. During the War of 1812 he then built his reputation commanding the army in the Northwest, defeating the British and Indian places and also defeating Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames. The battle was north of Lake Erie. This left the Indians looking for good, and their presence in the area would never again be a threat. Having the war of 1812 behind him, he went back to Ohio and started a new government lifestyle. He was in the House of Representatives from 1816-1819. Henry later then upgraded to senate of Ohio from 1819-1821. In 1836 he ran for presidency but lost. However, William returned in 1840 and this time won by winning the popular vote. Harrison officially became the oldest president to ever be. Harrison was 68 years old which was very old for people during this time period. Also, he was the last president to be born when the states were still under British rule. Sadly, he fought a bad cold which developed into an pneumoniae. He later died in 1841, in the White House. And to make it even sadder, he died before his wife could arrive to the White House to be the First Lady. Harrison was the first president to die in office.
