Over 1 million people in the U.S. practice witchcraft and over 200,000 people are identified as witches. Witchcraft is one of the fastest growing practices right now, and it’s still growing today. However, you probably never met someone who was born a true witch, but that’s the case for a main character in the story. In All The Birds In The Sky by Charlie Jane Anders, Patricia was born as a witch. Patricia’s friend in the story is a character named Laurence. The story includes many different settings, such as the woods, school, and a witch academy, and includes many different time periods, such as childhood, teenage years, and adulthood. Together, Patricia and Laurence try to save the world from disaster. Even though one is a witch and the other is a science geek, they put their differences aside and worked together to stop the chaos. Even if you are vastly different to someone else, you can still be friends with them and you can do amazing things together. …show more content…
For example, when Patricia said to Laurence that she was a witch, he didn’t run away. Laurence doesn’t care what Patricia is. He just deals with it and stays as Patricia’s friend. Patricia doesn’t care what Laurence is, either. At the end of the story, a tree asked Patricia the riddle, “Is a tree red?”, a riddle she has been asked throughout her life since she was 6. She finally answered “I don’t know,” which the Tree counted as an acceptable answer. Eventually, Laurence found a hole in the Tree that his supercomputer, Peregrine, could fit into. It seemed to work, and the world was saved. Patricia and Laurence have good chemistry together and work well together. Because of them working together and not worrying about their differences, they were able to stop the destruction of their world.
