Sookan changes in many ways throughout the book Year Of The Impossible Goodbyes when faced with the following situations, Grandpa's death, when the Russians invade, and when Sookan gets in trouble. Sookan changes dramatically when grandpa dies before his death she was always stubborn but when he died she said this "My anger, frustration, and fear, and utter loneliness began to subside" (Choi 46). The next one is when the Russians invade. Before they invaded, Sookan said this "While I was humming Swanee river, Inchun got up and peered out the rice paper paneled door" (Choi 99). I assume that she was happy because she was humming, but when they came she became fearful. Finally the last change is when Sookan gets in trouble at school. Because of all these changes it has made her a better person, she has lost her anger an frustration.
