One tragic way Native Americans were affected by disease. When the Europeans found the Native Americans land, they brought many diseases that were unknown to the Native Americans. Since they had never heard of these diseases or of their symptoms, they did not know how to treat them. It was a very sad time most people died merely from not being able to get the correct treatment (Doc. 2). The adage of the adage. The disease that killed the most people was smallpox. Over 3 million Native Americans died from smallpox, that is nearly half of their population! Smallpox killed about 30% of its victims. The people who survived it would have permanent damage and could even suffer from blindness for the rest of their lives. (OI: britannica/smallpox)
