After watching the documentary 13th, it really got me thinking about the United States past history of racism and how it has never really gone away, it has only been manipulated and changed over time. Before watching this video, I knew that there has always been racism towards African Americans and other minorities in the United States, but I never realized how much the past has been covered up or I have never been taught. I knew the United States had a high imprisonment rate, but I did not realize that it was the highest in the world. After watching this documentary, I learned there is more to the story of mass incarceration than just race.
