What is freedom? Freedom is a feeling that people have when they can have a free ability to think or do whatever you want. Living freely is something that has been altered into a way that has a negative effect in the society of Oceania. The characters in Orwell’s 1984 do not experience freedom as evidenced by they have the ability to think freely, they can't believe what they want to believe in, and they can’t go anywhere without be watched or followed by someone. As shown in 1984 just having a incorrect thought that BIg Brother doesn’t like he sends certain people to come after him . Everything that someone was doing in their everyday life, it was all being watch by The Party. But in 1984, world powers do not rule the world,their world order is designed by a number of young nations that pride themselves in being called “non-aligned”. At one point, The Party created a past of misery and slavery that defined the human race. In that time period, no one had freedom. It continued onto the new life they created. Every history book that they have idealizes what The Party has created. From The Party doing this, the people of Oceania has a very vivid and fuzzy memory. Now since The party has created their own version of the past and have given their people no choice but to not have any real memory of the past, that shows how much “freedom” they actually have. “Who controls the past controls the future.
