Block 2 “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” that is the opening to Dickens novel A Tale of Two Cities. This quote is foreshadowing the hardships most had to go through during the French Revolution, and how few were not affected at all.Marxist theory is going to be looking at the the bloody events and social issues of the 18th century. Charles Darnay finds himself being caught in a web of lies by the bourgeois class. He finds himself involved with economic, politics and even ends up being a tool in the unfolding of events. We see this in the depiction of the French Court called Monseigneur, and the line divided between the bourgeois and the proletarians. We can see their narrow minded thoughts in Dickens quote, “Monseigneur had the other truly noble idea that the world was made for them” (Dickens 106).
