The Crucible People that cause tragedies often become punished but in this case John proctor doesn't get punished for is affair. In the book The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a tragedy of the Salem witch trials. Also in the book some of the characters do witchcraft and get caught doing it. John Proctor, Tituba, and Abigail Williams are responsible for the tragedies in Salem but to varying degrees. First, John proctor takes blame because he withheld information so people wouldn’t find out about his affair. Elizabeth is telling him " Then go tell her she's a whore, what ever promise she has- break it, john, break it"(miller463). Tituba really reinforces the idea of witches when she claims to have told the devil, " Tituba! I tell him I don’t desire to work for him, sir."(miller 482). Tituba is making up this lie to save her life. She may not realize it when she does it, but she is starting the Salem witch trials and the death of many innocent people. She is saying that she begged Tituba and she wont believe her. Cheever enters Mr. Procter's have to search for poppet ad Cheever says "I spy a poppet, Goody Proctor"(Miller 499). Cheever finds a poppet and hold it carefully looking for more. They look around and don’t find anymore so Proctor turns the poppet over to her. Cheever takes the poppet and Proctor wont let it leave his sight and she pulls the needle out of her knee. She gets the poppet and walk out and ends the case because got what she wants. In conclusion, John Proctor, Tituba and Abigail Williams are most responsible for the tragedy of the Salem witch trials, all these characters committed a crime that had to with witchcraft and had to go to court and face all there punishments and charges and at the end they where all
