Laws for abortions today states that women have the legal right to obtain an abortion in all 50 states through all 9 months of pregnancy for any reason at all. Abortions are legal but may be restricted by the states to different degrees. Some states have passed laws to restrict late term abortions, require parental notification for minors, and mandate the disclosure of abortion risk information to patients prior to the procedure. Nearly half of all pregnancies among American woman are unintended and 4 in 10 of these end in abortions. 9 in 10 abortions occur in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Each year 2% of women aged 15-44 have an abortion, and half have had at least one previous abortion. 1 in 10 women will have an abortion by age 20, one in 4 by age 30 and 3 in 10 by age 45. 18% of US women obtaining abortions are teenagers: those aged 15-17 obtain 6% of all abortions, teens 18-19 obtain 11%, and teens younger than 15 obtain .4%. Women in their 20’s account for more then half of all abortions: women aged 20-24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and women aged 25-29 obtain 24%. In 2008, 1.21 million abortions were performed. After knowing all these facts and statistics I plan to change the abortion laws. I believe abortion should be illegal to women unless they have a serious medical condition. Any other excuse such as: being to young, not having enough money, being a single mother, or not able to take responsibility should not be used to have an abortion. My law will state that abortion is completely illegal which means it cannot be practiced in any state not unless the women has a medical condition and the only way it is allowed to be done is in the hospital. That way no planned parenthood or any other “underground” places are allowed to perform this. The reason why abortions should be illegal is because you know what you are doing if you are having unprotected sex, and if you decide to involve yourself in that activity you know what after effects…
