People have always wondered why is beyond the Earths atmosphere and how they would get to it. The Soviets where the first people that were able to get a craft into space. In 1957 they sent their first satellite, Sputnik 1, into space. Four years later, Gagarin, was the first human to travel around the Earth. Soon after the Soviets traveled to space, the United States sent three willing astronauts to the moon to explore. This was the start to the space travel for just about everyone. Before anyone knew it we all have the opportunity to travel to space and see what it is all about. Space travel is just not limited to the Soviets and the United States. Space travel is just one more thing that they could be at he top in. NASA was established in 1958 with the hope that one day space travel for man kind would be possible. Their first successful space mission took place just eleven years after they started up. President John F. Kennedy had set a goal to reach the moon and get home safely by the end of the 1960s. Kennedy was not the start to the Apollo program. Dwight D. Eisenhower first introduced the concept of space travel at the end of his presidency but was to late to get it pushed through to congress. So it was up the Kennedy to get the budget and push the thought of space travel throughout the United States. Mid 1969 Eisenhower and Kennedy’s dreams came true when Apollo 11 landed on the moon with Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and one that is left out of the pack all the time, Michael Collins. After these three proved that it was possible to land on the moon and make it back safely, the Unites States made this a huge priority. Since the Apollo 11 landing there has been six manned spaceship moon landings and tons of unmanned robots and satellites sent into space. NASA eventually threw in the towel and ended the space program. There are many possible reasons on why they did, some people say that they ran out of money and others say that NASA is unable to finish what they started. The Russian Space program was the first successful launch of the first soviet satellite. In 1960 soviet dogs were sent into space to see if they could breath and live in the universe. A year after the dogs came back the first man, Yuri Gagarin, traveled and orbited in space. Russia has been slacking with their Space program and hasn't been sending or creating any new space crafts. The Russian space station was their biggest achievement and lasted three times longer then expected for a total of fifteen years. After the end of the Russian space station, the contract was not renewed right away which gave people the conclusion that the Russians were done with the space program too. According to Russian critics “Russia's space industry lacks
