Analysis: The Dumbest Generation

Some people believe that those under the age of thirty are considered, “the dumbest generation.” The real question is are they really the dumbest generation? Do people under the age of thirty rely too much on technology to do the work for them? Yes, the younger generations are, “the dumbest generation.” In source one, “The Dumbest Generation,” written by Mark Bauerlein, it is believed that knowledge of the younger generation has not kept pace. Bauerlein writes, “18-29-year-olds possessed low knowledge levels.” This quote shows that the younger that one is, the less important the “knowledge,” is that they obtain. Bauerlein also says that, “the mind should profit alongside the youthful ego, the thirst for knowledge satisfied as much as the craving for fun and status.” The amount of craving that one has for social activities and personal time should be equal to their yearning for knowledge and education. …show more content…
Smith Simpson says, he was surprised that elementary students in geography could “hardly point out the principal rivers.” He believed that they were receiving less useful education, and not being taught what could be considered, basic knowledge. The less knowledge that one is receiving, the less one will know as they get older and move on into the real world. Simpson also says, “Americans abroad are asked a great many questions about their country—a good half of our candidates could answer such questions with only the thinnest recital facts; many could not discuss them at all.” This shows that the younger you are, the dumber your generation may be considered, as you are not receiving as much “useful” information as those of the older generations
