Analysis: Why College Athletes Should Be Paid

In the article, “College Athletes Should be Paid,” the author Anna Kaufmann, discusses a major problem that should be fixed. The major problem that must be fixed is the paying of college athletes. I think that college athletes should be paid for numerous amount of reasons; one, the future of college athletes is extremely hard; two, playing sports is a full time job; and, three they bring income and fans to the team.

One reason why college athletes should get paid is because the future for many college athletes is extremely hard due to many reasons such as, if a player does not fit in the offense/defense strategy of a new coach or if they get injured. What I mean by a full time job is that being a college athlete is not simply a hobby. It is something that requires them to have one hundred percent dedication in. They must also attend practices daily, and be ready to play games each week while performing well academically as well. Other students that are not involved in sports have more free time to go out and anything they want even get a job to help support themselves. These college players do not have the same luxury as the people who are not involved in sports and should be helped financially for playing

The last reason why I agreed that college athlete should be paid is because they bring lots of money and fans to the team. Just by playing people come out and see them. When people come see them it brings in ticket sales also merchandise sales, and many of their sources of income. If it wasn’t for the college athletes there would be no sports being played at all. Also, without players the sponsors, or promoters won't be able to make any money. It is only seems right that the players get equally paid as well for all the work they
