Andy Warhol created an artwork ‘Details of Renaissance Paintings’ in 1984 by using acrylic and spray paint on linen. In ‘Details of Renaissance Paintings’, the painting’s subject is the Roman goddess Venus. ‘Details of Renaissance Paintings’ originally placed in the Andy Warhol Museum. Yet, it is presently placed in the Arkansas Arts Centre.
Andy Warhol was born on 6th August, 1928 and passed away on 22nd February, 1987. He was an famous artist who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as a pop artist. He was also known for cinema, painting, photography and printmaking. The Campbell’s Soup Cans was Warhol’s most famous artwork that made in 1962.
There is an artwork titled ‘The Birth of Venus’ in 1482 which is by Sandro Botticelli.

Yet, the colour of yellow upon the colour of pink on the left side of the goddess’s face produces a light source. It seems like the goddess has a glowing face because the colours used for her face and hair contrasts sharply with the light blue background, it makes the goddess more eye-catching in the painting. The application of warm colours in this painting and one solid light blue background creates a feeling of unity and variety concurrently.
I can observe the sense of motion in this artwork. In ‘Details of Renaissance Paintings’, Andy Warhol use curved line to represent the goddess’s hair. As her hair is curly, it seems that there are some wind to blow up her hair.
When I use ‘Details of Renaissance Paintings’ to make a comparisons with ‘The Birth of Venus’, I found that Andy Warhol gave an modern appearance to the Venus as he used different colours but Sandro Botticelli just used white colour only, and I think it is quite monotonous. With the uses of vivid and sharp colours in the artwork, Andy Warhol illustrates a sense of hardiness and powerful to the goddess.
