Anne Lamott, born in 1954, is a long time novelist. In one of her books, Bird by Bird (1994), Lamott writes about the importance of “Shitty First Drafts”. In the first paragraph, Lamott says that even the greatest authors have to write multiple drafts before “getting it right”, she even tells about her personal experience with writing and shitty first drafts. In this particular writing, I believe that Lamott is targeting the student body and she is taking on the role of the teacher/mentor. While reading through “Shitty First Drafts”, I found that the very beginning or the writing wasn’t really grabbing my attention but as I continued to read, I got more interested.
