The colonists decided it was time to create a new form of government in America after their newly found independence from the English. The first formal document that was created was named the Articles of Confederation. However, it could be seen that the Articles of Confederation had two quite problematic weaknesses. One being that the whole nation was not quite a “whole” nation, and also each state wanted to run their own states, their own way. Also to fund for the pricey Revolutionary War the new nation borrowed quite a huge sum of money. However the Articles of Confederation did not allow the power to levy taxes, thus leaving the nation in a mountain of debt. Under the new government, the Constitution, a stronger defense was provided for the country, and the management of all the states were seemed to have improved.

Although many acknowledged the new document, a lot of others were strongly opposed of the Constitution, otherwise known as the Anti federalists. Anti federalists believed that such a strong central government in the future will eventually lead to the tyrannical rule they had before. Instead of the Constitution, Anti federalists believed that the Bill of Rights was a better fit for the nation. However on the other hand, Federalists, wanted the new document because they truly believed that it provided a balance between federal and state power. Federalists believed that having a system of checks and balances and having the power divided between three branches would prevent another tyrannical rule.
