There are so many different flavors of JELLO, one would find it difficult to choose just one. Throughout the years there has been various sitcoms aired on television, one would find it hard to choose their favorite one. But between JELLO and sitcoms there’s a common factor that has put smiles on families’ faces for years. Bill Cosby has touched people of all ages, making them laugh, making them cry, even making them cry while laughing, but Bill Cosby is so much more than just a comedian and an actor. He has changed lives as an educator and activist. He has also touched peoples’ hearts as an author and musician. As one can see now, Bill Cosby is so much more than just America’s funny family man.
William Henry Cosby Jr., a Philadelphian native, sky rocketed into fame as the voice of Fat Albert and the face of the Cosby show. Bill not only was a comedian, but an educated comedian. During the beginning of his television career, Bill had received a MA from the University of Mass. Amhurst. As the executive producer of the Cosby Show, he had a lot of say as to what was going to be presented in the show. Instead of just going for the cheap laughs, he chose subject matters that every family goes through and it had a huge impact of how America viewed African American families. As the show went on with sky high ratings and seeing the influence it had on America’s portrayal of African American families, Bill knew this was just the beginning of his journey as more than a comedian/actor.
Bill Cosby’s love for kids has never been a secret. He’s not only made numerous shows geared towards a younger audience, he speaks at many colleges educating Americas future generation. His decision to go back to complete his masters at The University of Mass. Amhurst was based on his involvement with PBS and the show “The Electric Company”, which taught young children to read. His doctoral thesis was titled "The Integration of Visual Media Via Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids Into the Elementary Schools Culminating as a Teacher Aid to Achieve Increased Learning." (billcosby.com) Not only does he teach children and young adults, but he has spent substantial time educating parents on the correct way to teach and love their children. He portrayed these characteristics on the Cosby show as well as his stand up acts. He puts a lot of focus on the parenting when it comes to molding America’s youth. Cosby spoke at Rowand University on social issues and stated “Parents must also look at their own behaviors which contradict what they want their children to learn, and not depend on school or recreational programs to make their children into strong, moral individuals.” ( Jessica Driscoll/ Gloucester County Times)
