Colonial Williamsburg is a symbolic and compelling place in the history of the United States. On the streets of Colonial Williamsburg lay a plethora of powerful buildings that decided the liberty of many Americans. A countless amount of events occurred in and at these structures, the Magazine, Governor’s Palace, Capitol, and Bruton Parish Church. All of these share influential moments in history. Some are vital to our existence. Even though the buildings are essential to building America as a nation, the most pivotal building in Colonial Williamsburg is the Bruton Parish Church. The three hundred year old structure has history engraved into it. The exhibit could educate us about history colonists faced and how they dealt with them. The commonwealth could learn numerous things from the past. One reason is that the Bruton Parish Church is still in service. People still attend its Sunday services. The church doesn’t only provide Sunday masses, it also holds ceremonies and festivals. Some festivals include the traditional organ playing and the Candlelight Concert. Lastly, the church provided assistance during the Battle at Yorktown as well as the Civil War. During the Battle at Yorktown it served as a hospital and a storehouse. Later, during the Civil War it served as a home for the wounded. As the Civil War continued, a mortar was shot at the church. As of today, it hangs from the church's steeple. It represents all the church has survived through over the course of time. It was restored in 1907 through 1937. It serves as a tourist attraction at Colonial Williamsburg. The Capitol doesn’t reach these standards because it only served as a building where the laws were first written. Firstly, the church is widely respected because of three century year old parish. The people who attend the church now learn the same things as the people in the 1700’s. Another reason the Bruton Parish Church is well associated with the mission statement is because part of its mission is “ to feed the human spirit by sharing America's history.” The Bruton Parish Church and the mission statement correlate as well as the phrase following the mission statement because the Bruton Parish Church has a lot of history with the Civil War along with the Revolutionary War. One example being, the churchyard has the children of Martha Custis Washington buried under it. As their parents were very notable people, the commonwealth could learn from the mistakes they have made. Furthermore, Thomas Jefferson strongly believed in religious freedom. He expressed this idea at the Bruton Parish Church. The Magazine doesn’t have much relevance to the mission statement because its only importance was to store supplies.
