Cause and Effect in Medieval Times
Medieval times were corrupt and disorganized. Everyone was fighting for power. Kings were trying to control everyone at the same time that that Church was and everything became a mess. Disease stepped in and caused an uproar of tension and sadness. Medieval times were not a time of happiness for most people. The Black Death, The Hundred Year’s War and The Avignon Papacy caused a lot of corruption and effected people harshly.
The Avignon Papacy was a period of time between 1309 and 1377 where the King and the Church were in a dispute. During the time of the Avignon Papacy, the Great Schism was playing a part. There were three popes at the same time which caused for much

Economically, prices were being lowered, people were starving and everyone who was still alive was gaining more land. The land and property that once belonged to someone who had passed from the Black Death, had now been overtaken by people who were still alive. The people who were still alive were now gaining all of this extra necessities that were left. Land lords were hit very hard after waves of the Black Death. They had to lower prices to be able to keep a tenant in their property. Production in Europe ceased. Farm laborers, guild workmen, domestic servants, clerks, and priests were now asking for more money since it was only them doing the work that required more hands. At the same time, more employment opportunities opened up. Since the population had decreased rapidly, people were being “promoted” to a higher paying job. For example, clerks were becoming merchants, workmen were becoming employers and contractors, and farm laborers were becoming gentlemen farmers. As people were asking for higher wages and wanting lower priced goods, France and England began to create maximum laws. The government was hit hard as well. The people who were trained for protection, were now being cut down as people were dying. The people in office who had died from the plague were being replaced by dishonest and incompetent …show more content…
The displacement of the population was high. People were leaving town or dying before they could leave. The towns and cities were now filled with new people and new languages as people began to venture out; trying to get away from the disease. People began to talk differently. Manners were no longer an expectation as language became more rudely toned. Fashion changed into more of a display for people to see. People were now getting jewels and brightly colored garments from deceased people’s homes and wearing them as their own. The old nobility had passed away along with most of the population. This meant that their titles and all of their land was basically up for grabs. The King took the nobilities property and dispersed it among people he deemed
