1. Safe and Sound is an example of a clinical decision support system (CDSS) that supports evidence-based decision-making. It allows clinicians to make medical decisions based on knowledge and factual, documented best practice. According to a video named Clinical decision support for evidence-based care, Safe and Sound “flexibly coordinates the clinical workflow” and assists physicians when selecting the most suitable protocol for a patient by viewing relative protocols embedded in the system. The video also revealed that this CDSS can monitor a patient’s progress, suggest treatments for care, predict likely responses to treatment, and flag patient eligibility for treatment trials. This technology can benefit the future health of generation to come by recording adverse clinical events, which can be used in research and further support better clinical outcomes. Safe and Sound can play valuable roles in both supporting quality and safety in health care delivery.
2. The critical difference between a clinical decision support system (CDSS) and a Personal Health Record (PHR) is that a

A Bayesian network is a model derived from the Bayes’ Theorem of Reverend Thomas Bayes, which probabilistically measures the quantitative strength of connections between variables (Cimino & Shortcliffe, 2014, pp. 64-93.) This enables inferences to be made under uncertainty, providing a strong method of reasoning when determining what route of treatment will most likely help a patient. The Bayesian network lets clinicians numerically see the likeliness of a disease for a particular patient case. According to Nee and Hines (2010), when developing a CDSS a Bayesian network will allow modeling of causal dependencies and prevent misdiagnosis by providing a more reliable manner to determine the state of the patient’s health. This information is then used in the diagnostic decision process in a patient-specific way to suggest possible
