The two first successful English colonies in North America were “Jamestown” and “Plymouth Plantation”. Jamestown was settled on May 14, 1607. Plymouth was established in1620. Both of these colonies were different, yet the had many similarities in Governments, differing economic activities and their reasons for settlements. The Captain of Jamestown was John Smith, he was born on January 1580 in England. He was elected president of Jamestown in 1608.
