America as a country has always had a troubled past. There have always been quarrels, a major one was the civil war. I believe the flag should be raised to honor the victims and the fallen Americans. it also represents southern pride. For many southern Americans the confederate battle flag is a symbol of sacrifice. During the civil war the confederate battle flag was not the Confederate states of America's first flag. The first flag resembled Old Glory (the flag of the Union), due to this the Confederates made a new flag. To many the flag was a symbol that they could rally under. They use it to symbolize their stubbornness for not assimilating to other cultures and staying true to themselves. They use this flag as a way to connect to their ancestors. They use the resistance to change that their ancestors had to fuel them to keep their culture. The flag has meant many things to the southerners and they take offense to anyone that defiles their flag. To southerners the confederate flag is a symbol of southern pride.
