“I didn’t do nothing! What did I do?” “Get on the ground!” “What for, I didn’t do nothing.” “Hands behind your back!” “I can’t breathe, I can’t breath.” These were the last words a black man, Eric Garner, would utter, before his untimely demise. Daniel Panteleo along with other NYPD cops, accidently killed Garner. Was this a case of excessive force or typical police procedure? Garner was a six foot three, three hundred and fifty pound black man, trying to find way to make money. Men like him take any odd jobs they can to bring some kind of income into the household. His hustle was selling loosies (single cigarettes). It wasn’t much, but with the high prices for cigarettes in New York it could have been a profitable endeavor. Garner was standing on the street in front of a mini market. He was selling tax-free cigarettes. When a cop named Daniel Pantaleo stopped Garner and proceeded to question him, Garner became hostile toward the police officer and was placed in an illegal chokehold. …show more content…

Pantaleo grabbed Garner from behind in an attempt to restrain him. Pantaleo was undersized compared to Garner. With the situation becoming more violent he put his arm under the neck of Garner. The cop placed him in a submission technique that is considered illegal. He was place in a chokehold. It is primarily used to make offenders comply with the police demands.
